Chiloe Island Solar Eclipse

Your trip begins with pickup at Puerto Montt's El Tepual Airport (PMC), followed by a ferry crossing of the Chacao Channel onto Chiloé Island. In Ancud, you browse the traditional market for local crafts, then head to Punihuil, the only place in the world where Humboldt and Magellanic penguins nest side by side. Board a boat tour around the islets for a close look at the colony. After lunch at a local restaurant, you continue to your hotel in Castro.

Travel to Quellon, the southernmost tip of Chiloe Island and the end of the Pan-American Highway, which becomes your base for the solar eclipse. While you wait for the celestial alignment, take in the rugged southern coastline and views of Corcovado Volcano across the gulf.

Spend the day in Tepuhueico, a private reserve of ancient temperate rainforest and a sanctuary for wildlife, keeping an eye out for Darwin's fox or the pudu, the world's smallest deer. In the evening, dine on a modern take on traditional Chiloe ingredients at a chef-led restaurant, with local products served in an intimate space.

Drive back to the airport (PMC) for your flight home, or on to Puerto Varas if you're continuing south.
