Day 1: Guanacaste’s Sloth & Animal Sanctuary Park

Step into an open-habitat sanctuary dedicated to the care and rehabilitation of rescued wildlife, including Costa Rica’s iconic two-toed sloths. Observe these gentle creatures up close as you explore the grounds and learn about their journey from rescue to recovery. Meet the resident sloths, each brought in by Costa Rica’s Wildlife Ministry from outside the region, and discover the challenges involved in nursing them back to health due to their slow metabolism and sensitive nature.

Join one of the scheduled feeding sessions at 9:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., or 3:30 p.m., where the caretaker provides engaging commentary on sloth behavior, diet, and conservation. Gain insight into the threats facing sloths in the wild and the growing global movement to protect them. This hands-on experience offers a rare chance to support local conservation efforts and deepen your connection with one of Costa Rica’s most beloved animals.
