The Hacienda Tijax offers a special and unique place to be in touch with nature. Since 1990, Tijax has evolved into the most unique place on the Rio Dulce and probably in the whole Izabal Region and the Guatemalan Caribbean. Although the Lodge has maintained its rustic and open nature, the fact that it is nestled inside a 400+ Acre (200 Hectares) spread with its own Nature Reserve, forestry project, miles of trails, water springs, and pools make it the destination to visit while on the Rio Dulce. Centrally located from here, you can embark on several day trips to other places of interest, like the Rio Dulce boat trip to Livingston and the Hot Waterfall at Finca Paraiso.
At Hotel Tijax, the experience is marked by the warmth of welcoming staff and the simplicity of essential comforts—fresh sheets, dry towels, and satisfying meals—while the sounds and scents of the jungle create a tranquil backdrop. The atmosphere is straightforward and unpretentious, yet there's ample opportunity for enjoyment, whether it's sipping a cocktail by the pool, watching the moonrise from the dock, hiking the jungle trails, exploring the plantation on horseback, or kayaking at dawn to catch a glimpse of the monkeys in their natural habitat.
Relax, enjoy, learn, and be in harmony with the Jungle environment!

Kate was great to work with in the planning stage. She was prompt, helpful, and efficient. Our tour guide, Edwin, was knowledgeable and passionate. We were very happy to have traveled with Adventure Life, it made the trip easy and a true pleasure. We could concentrate on enjoying the experience rather than the details of travel.
