On this full-day tour, you experience the dramatic landscapes of Pacaya National Park. You hike through a fragrant pine forest that transitions into rugged volcanic ash and massive dried lava fields. As you climb, the views open up to reveal the towering peaks of Agua, Fuego, and Acatenango, with visibility often reaching the Pacific lowlands. Near the summit, you roast marshmallows over natural thermal vents and look for signs of active lava flows. A freshly prepared picnic lunch, enjoyed amidst the impressive volcanic scenery, perfectly completes your time on the mountain.

Day 1: Pacaya Active Volcano Hike

  • 1 Lunch
The tour starts with a morning transfer to the foothills of the active Pacaya volcano (approximately 1.5 hour drive). The hike then begins with a fairly strenuous hike through wonderful pine forest up to the more tricky volcanic ash section and finally to the sulfur smoking cone. On occasion you can even see small eruptions and lava flow depending on the activity of the volcano. From the summit we can enjoy great views to the northern volcanoes, the Pacific lowlands and all the way to El Salvador. Half way down, we stop to enjoy a picnic lunch with the impressive volcano in close sight. Back at the base of the volcano, our support vehicle awaits us for our transfer back to Antigua.

This tour is approximately 8-9 hours with a private guide.

The company was easy to work with and planned my trip as I requested. Transportation from the airport to my hotel was without any issues. My hotel was wonderful. The 2 guides I had were exceptional. I have no complaints.
