Day 1: Cannes, France | Embark

Glittering Cannes is the archetypal Mediterranean resort city discovered by wealthy English nobles who came to the sunny south of France to escape their drafty old castles during the dreary British winters. Cannes’ high-flying lifestyle has attracted notables and the notorious ever since. Every year, the stars flock to celebrate the Cannes Film Festival at the colossal Palais des Festivals.

Day 2: Portofino, Italy

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Portofino is a fishing village on the Italian Riveria coastline. Its pastel-colored houses, luxury boutiques, and seafood restaurants surround its Piazzetta, a small cobbled square overlooking the harbor, which is lined with super-yachts. A short walk takes you up to the Church of St. George, a church with a cool, plain interior, dramatically situated on the narrow neck of the Portofino headland. As a lookout point, and probably as a site of religious significance, the spot goes back thousands of years.

Day 3: Portoferraio, Elba, Italy

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
From his villa in Portoferraio, Napoleon, the exiled Emperor of France, looked out over the waiting ships in the harbor and dreamed of returning to glory. Enjoy a local vineyard tour, and near Portoferraio, discover the remains of an ancient Etruscan civilization.

Day 4: Corsica | Bastia, Corsica

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
It's amazing in this day and age to find a Mediterranean city that looks like it stepped right out of the travel diary of a 19th-century Grand Tour. Bastia's gracious Italianate buildings were created to house the administrative offices of the capital of Haute Corse.

Day 5: Porto Vecchio, France

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
The town of Porto Vecchio has two main areas to explore: the citadel and old town, and the marina. The fascinating citadel and streets of the old town date from the 16th century, when the Genoese controlled Corsica, so allow time to wander around the area. The small marina is attractive and there are plenty of cafes and restaurants overlooking the harbor, a perfect place to spend a summer evening.

Day 6: Civitavecchia, Italy

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Highlights of Rome include St. Peter's, with its breathtaking Sistine Chapel, newly restored to its former glory; the Spanish Steps, where all Rome passes by; the Colosseum, where gladiators fought to the death, and the Pantheon, considered to be the most perfect architectural statement of the ages.

Day 7: Ponza | Palmarola, Italy

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
The pastel houses of Ponza Town rise in neat terraced rows from the busy harbor where sleekly groomed yachts and ramshackle fishing boats moor side by side. Happily, there are few tourists here, so it's a delight to wander through the unspoiled town.

Palmarola is a snorkeling heaven that is part of a group called The Pontine Islands, located off the coast between Rome and Naples. A craggy landscape with pink coral beaches and emerald coves beckons so don't forget your swimsuit and flippers. It's totally unique, isolated and stunning.

Day 8: Sorrento, Italy

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Sorrento, whose city walls rise straight out of the sea, is located on the lovely Amalfi Coast and overlooks the Bay of Naples. Optional excursions might include taking a trip back in history to Pompeii, where the ashen remains of ancient Romans lie frozen in time.

Day 9: Lipari, Italy

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Italy's seven volcanic Aeolian Islands, just off the north coast of Sicily, are obviously a place favored by the Gods. In Lipari, climb narrow streets to the medieval castello and enjoy a secluded beach. As Star Flyer sails past Isola Strómboli, watch the sky for frequent volcanic fireworks.

Day 10: Syracuse, Sicily

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Syracuse is a city on the Ionian coast of Sicily that's known for its ancient ruins. It was once the largest city in the world, bigger than Athens and Corinth and as you can imagine it's steeped in history. Visit Parco Archeologico della Neapolis, one of Sicily's greatest archaeological sites. Relax in one of its stylish little cafes that surround its beautiful baroque piazzas before wandering down its medieval lanes towards the sparkling blue sea.

Day 11: At Sea

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner

Day 12: Pilos, Greece

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Homer's “Wise King Nestor” was very wise indeed to build his magnificent palace near Pilos, for the city's harbor of Navarino Bay and the land-locked lake that was the original harbor were a perfect refuge from storms – and invaders. It was at this site on October 20, 1827, with the help of Britain, Russia and France, that modern Greece attained independence, defeating the Turkish navy in the Battle of Navarino Bay.

Day 13: Elafonisos, Greece

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
In the southern Peloponnese lies Elafonisos, an island of just 19 sq. km. All life here centers around the beach...pure white sand, lapped by clear turquoise waters. Take a stroll along the coastal road and stop for seafood and a glass or two of ouzo while you watch the fishing boats gently bobbing away.

Day 14: Hydra, Greece

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Hydra is a town of stately mansions all built around 1800 by blockade runners who had made fortunes outwitting the British during the Napoleonic Wars. As there are no cars, for the spectacular view from the Monastery of Ilias you have to ride a donkey to the top.

Day 15: Piraeus (Port of Athens), Greece | Disembark

  • 1 Breakfast
Walking in the shadow of the Acropolis in the Agora, you can almost hear the voices of Plato, Socrates, and Aristotle arguing about who was the greatest philosopher. Ancient Athens, the birthplace of democracy and epicenter of western civilization, is a city for all eternity. Disembark after breakfast and continue your independent trip back home.
