The main lounge building is set high above the water for long views upriver and a private viewing platform overlooking the lagoon.

Along with a sizable population of hippos, the river is home to numerous elephants, reedbuck, waterbuck, and sable. In "The Sanctuary," a fenced 4,000ha area in Liwonde, buffalo, Lichtenstein's hartebeest, zebra, roan, eland, and a rare black rhino have been introduced. Spend your days at this discrete and eco-friendly lodge on Nankoma Island, named after the vibrant cichlid fish. This island is a true wild paradise, home to some of Malawi's most unusual flora and fauna.

What better way to spend an afternoon than splashing about in the swimming pool or chilling out on deck chairs with a refreshing cocktail? Named after a frequent visitor to the island, the African bee-eater, the open-air restaurant looks over Baobab Garden, the pool area, and Lake Malawi. Dining at Blue Zebra Island Lodge is a leisurely and tasteful experience.

This was our first trip to South America and we were a little nervous. But Adventure Life made things so easy! All our questions were answered before we left, and our guide, Vidal, was amazing! He gave us enough space to explore without rushing us along. He also knew where the best picture taking opportunities were, which was great.
