Day 1: Civitavecchia (Rome) | Embark

Embark in Civitavecchia (Rome). St. Peter's, with its breathtaking Sistine Chapel, newly restored to its former glory- the Spanish Steps, where all of Rome passes by the Colosseum, where gladiators fought to the death, and the Pantheon, considered to be the perfect architectural statement of the ages.

Day 2: At sea

Each Star Clippers ship offers a traditional and elegant way to see the world. Feel the wind fill the sails and gently carry you from one gorgeous destination to the next. During your time on board, you can choose to relax on a sun lounger or cool off in one of the pools on the top deck, while more adventurous passengers may enjoy the opportunity to climb the rigging or even have a go at steering the ship. Alternatively, you can wander the interior areas of the ship and discover relaxing lounges and a peaceful library.

Day 3: Lipari, Aeolian Islands, Italy | Stromboli, Italy

Italy's seven volcanic Aeolian Islands, just off the north coast of Sicily, are places favored by the gods. In Lipari, climb narrow streets to the medieval castle and enjoy a secluded beach. As Star Flyer sails past Isola Strómboli, watch the sky for frequent volcanic fireworks.

Sail around Stromboli with the backdrop of its famous active volcano, which had its last major eruption in April 2009.

Day 4: Messina, Sicily, Italy

Messina was a significant transport hub for centuries and remains a gateway to the island of Sicily. Messina is home to one of Sicily's finest cathedrals, with the world's most oversized and complex mechanical and astronomical clocks. Try the lemon granita (shaved ice) or the famous mezza con panna al caffè, a half glass of coffee-flavored granita and cream.

Day 5: Amalfi, Italy

Amalfi was a powerful republic of 70,000 people during the Middle Ages, rivaling nearby Ravello. For a sense of Amalfi's medieval glory, wander through the grand Duomo, containing the remains of St. Andrew. In the evening, you may visit nearby Positano, the most beautiful town in the Mediterranean.

Day 6: Ponza, Pontine Islands, Italy

The pastel houses of Ponza Town rise in neat terraced rows from the busy harbor, where sleekly groomed yachts and ramshackle fishing boats moor side by side. Happily, there are few tourists here, so it's a delight to wander through the unspoiled town.

Day 7: Civitavecchia (Rome) | Disembark

  • 1 Breakfast
Disembark after breakfast and continue your independent trip back home.

Our guide and driver were very good with their knowledge and were very helpful with our questions. It was a very pleasant visit that would have been impossible to do on our own. Hotels and restaurants were fantastic. The special places we got to go to, like the kitchens, were great. Enjoyed the entire trip!
