Day 1: Nice, France | Embark

Nice captivates visitors with its alluring blend of Mediterranean charm and sun-soaked beaches. Take a leisurely walk along the iconic Promenade des Anglais, immerse yourself in the historic allure of Vieux Nice, with its vibrant alleyways and lively markets, and indulge in exquisite culinary delights. Boasting a temperate climate throughout the year, Nice provides an ideal getaway where French sophistication harmonizes with breathtaking natural beauty.

Day 2: Monaco, Monaco

Monaco is a well-known place for royalty and movie stars. The beautiful Palais du Prince and the rich casinos show off a stylish, pre-war era. This small principality has one of the highest concentrations of wealth in the world, allowing it to keep its charming and glamorous appeal.

Day 3: Porto Venere, Italy

Porto Venere is a stunning seaside village on the Ligurian coast of Italy, known for its colorful waterfront houses and medieval charm. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it features the impressive Church of San Pietro, perched on a rocky cliff overlooking the sea. The town’s historic castle and narrow, winding streets add to its timeless appeal. Nearby, the beautiful Palmaria Island offers scenic hiking trails and crystal-clear waters for swimming. Often considered a quieter alternative to the Cinque Terre, Porto Venere is a hidden gem perfect for those seeking history, nature, and breathtaking coastal views.

Day 4: Portoferraio, Elba, Italy

From his villa in Portoferraio, Napoleon, the exiled Emperor of France, looked out over the waiting ships in the harbor and dreamed of returning to glory. Enjoy a local vineyard tour, and near Portoferraio, discover the remains of an ancient Etruscan civilization.

Day 5: Sant Amanza | Bonifacio, Corsica

Sant'Amanza is considered to be one of the most beautiful beaches on the Island of Corsica. Located on it's southern most tip, it is surrounded by limestone cliffs, granite rocks and scrub, with sands lapped by crystal clear azure waters. It is a popular location for water sports including kite surfing.

Bonifacio, a magnificent town in the far south of Corsica, is renowned for its spectacular medieval architecture, impressive limestone cliffs and picturesque harbor. Nestling atop steep cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, Bonifacio offers breathtaking views of the crystal-clear waters and neighboring islands.

Day 6: Porticcio Beach | Ajaccio, Corsica, France

Porticcio, on the southern shore of the Gulf of Ajaccio, is a charming seaside resort renowned for its fine sandy beaches and turquoise waters. Combining natural beauty with modern facilities, it offers water sports, lively walks and tasty local specialities.

Ajaccio, the capital of Corsica, is situated on the west coast of the island and is a bustling port city with a relaxed atmosphere. Known for its charming cobbled streets, relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere and rich cultural heritage as the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte. Ajaccio offers a unique experience combining history, nature and gastronomy.

Day 7: Calvi, Corsica, France

Napoleon once said he could recognize his native island blindfolded thanks to the wonderful scent of the maquis. When arriving in Corsica by sea, that is the first thing you notice. The second is the wild, mountainous landscape... and when you spot a medieval citadel overlooking a marina, you know you have arrived in Calvi!

Day 8: Nice, France | Disembark

Beyond expectations! Then again we weren't sure what to expect. Lovely stay at the lodge, met other like-minded travelers (many had their trips planned by Adventure Life) and the owner was a gracious hostess. It felt like you were one happy family, visiting with a favorite aunt.

The ship was beautiful. I loved being able to swim off the platform! Great food, good drinks, great atmosphere. The staff is wonderful as well.

This is a fabulous, very upscale sailing experience. Star Clipper is a tall clipper ship with masts and sails. You actually feel the waves and the movement of the ship. You get to see and experience the excitement of the raising and lowering of the sails depending on the winds. The ships hold only about 150 people so the experience is nothing like regular cruise ships that carry thousands of passengers. The small number of passengers allow you to get to know people and make friends.

I wanted to visit some of the islands in the Mediterranean that most cruise ships don’t go to. A friend recommended that I try a sailing ship so I googled and found the sea clippers and Adventure Life. My experience booking with them was excellent. They were professional and responsive. I’d use them again plus recommend them.

Our Balkans trip was the perfect blend of adventure, history, and cultural discovery. Each country offered something special—from Albania’s lively energy and stunning mountain landscapes to Montenegro’s breathtaking Bay of Kotor and Bosnia’s rich mix of cultures and moving history. The fall colors and scenic drives made every mile memorable. We loved the balance of guided tours, hikes, local food and wine experiences, and time to explore on our own. Our guides, Loren and Ernest, were outstanding—knowledgeable, engaging, and full of local insight and humor. Even after traveling more than 1,000 miles together, the journey never felt long or dull. It was a beautifully curated itinerary that captured the very best of the Balkans.
