Embark on board L'Austral for an 11-day cruise along the Mediterranean Sea. From Tenerife to Lisbon do not miss this extraordinary adventure in the heart of stunning landscapes with beautiful beaches. Be seduced by the authenticity and the charm of the cities in the Canary Islands, Morocco, Spain, and Portugal.
Involves minimal physical effort and is typically associated with leisurely activities. Activities are low-intensity or last less than a few hours each day.
Arrive in Santa Cruz, the capital of Tenerife, the largest and one of the most beautiful islands in the Canaries. Transfer to the pier to embark L’Austral.
From Safi, drive to fabled Marrakech. Set among gardens and palm groves, Marrakech is one of Morocco’s four Imperial Capitals. Your exploration includes the 12th-century Koutoubia Minaret, the Bahia Palace, the Ben Youssef Medressa (school), the Jewish quarter (which in the 16th century functioned almost as a separate town), and Djemma el-Fna, the city’s central square at the heart of the Medina (town). There is also an opportunity to walk through Marrakech’s colorful souks (marketplace).
Dock in Casablanca, Morocco’s largest port city and commercial center and visit the vast Hassan II Mosque, built on a promontory facing the sea. Continue to Rabat, Morocco’s elegant capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Tour the Mausoleum of Mohamed V and the Hassan Tower, as well as the citadels of Kasbah des Quidaias and Chellah.
Arrive in Tangier, the port city from which the Moors launched their invasion of Spain in the 8th century. Explore the following: the medina, a classic Moroccan town of narrow lanes, dominated by its old citadel; the Dar el Makhzen, a museum of antiquities and crafts; and the Old American Legation, listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, a palace given to the U.S. government in 1777 to house its first embassy.
Sail through the Strait of Gibraltar to Puerto Banus and disembark for an excursion to Ronda. The capital of a small, independent Moorish kingdom, Ronda fell to the Christians in 1485. Explore the Ciudad, a town with an intricate maze of alleyways, and visit the Church of Santa Maria La Mayor, originally a Moorish mosque, as well as the 14th-century Palacio de Mondragon.
Granada exemplifies the best of Moorish culture, art, and architecture. Explore the incomparable Alhambra, the very pinnacle of Islamic architecture, built by the caliphs of the Nasrid dynasty, and stroll through the splendid Generalife Gardens.
Gibraltar, “Gateway to the Mediterranean,” is one of the world’s great landmarks and has guided mariners for centuries. Take the cable car up to the Upper Rock Nature Reserve to explore St. Michael’s Cave, a natural grotto once home to Neolithic inhabitants, and the Apes’ Den to see Gibraltar’s famed tailless monkeys. Also enjoy time at leisure before returning to the ship.
From Cadiz, travel to Seville, one of Europe’s most important and affluent maritime cities. Visit the Alcazar, with its charming Murillo Gardens, and the Gothic Cathedral. You may also explore the remains of ancient Italica, once the third largest city in the Roman world, or spend time at leisure in Seville.
Enjoy the morning at sea before arriving in Lisbon. Stroll through the Alfama, the city’s oldest and most fascinating neighborhood. Explore the historical Belem Quarters, the Jeronimos Monastery - the finest example of the Portuguese Manueline style, and the Gulbenkian Museum, housing one of the finest collections of art in Europe.

The trip was terrific with great planning on your part. Most of the adventures were not mainstream and somewhat off the beaten path which made it especially enjoyable!! We felt taken care of and you all were readily available to respond to questions and issues. I would highly recommend your company and friends have already expressed interest based on our pictures and excitement.

First class all the way. Enjoyed our Guide, Karla, Driver Mark so much. Personalized tour of Antigua during Easter was like a National Geographic in person. Trip of the Lifetime. Such a spiritual and magical tour. Many Thanks.

The response from Adventure Life to my first inquiry was prompt and promising. I worked with Jamie Broeckel, Trip Planner, via text, email, and phone calls- always extremely responsive and thorough with information and explaining the process to arrange a private tour for me to Malaysia Borneo. Within about week, the booking was complete and I made decisions because of Jamie's great customer service , friendly manner, and overall competence on behalf of the company's travel expertise. Now I have an itinerary, additional Trip Planner Assistants, several links for vital information for traveling to Maylasia, etc. Still many details for Sept. trip, but now the heavy lifting is done and I can enjoy the rest of the anticipation and research!! Thanks Jamie- you are amazing!!!!

The trip was not only memorable for the amount of animals we saw but also for the people and accommodations at the two camps where we stayed. Our first guide, BK, was a wealth of information about the animals, landscape and down to the plants and what they were used for. Everyday out was a learning experience with him. All the people at the camps were gracious and the food was excellent.
Our second camp in the Okavanga was just as good as the first as far as the staff, accommodations, food and animals. After our experience at the first camp we amazed that the high quality remained the same. Our guide, G, made sure we were able to enjoy every experience including a rush through the bush to witness a cheetah and an ensuing hunt that he heard over his radio.
In both camps there were enough guides out that if they saw something the other guides were informed which helped in seeing as much as possible. It was also nice that the concessions were large enough that we did not have vehicles following each other throughout the day.
Normally there is always something in a trip of this length that we think could be improved upon but this is the rare case where we cannot think of anything. From the time we left the States to when we returned it was one of the most hassle free vacations we took.
Perhaps emphasizing the use of the laundry facilities at the camps would be useful because of the luggage restrictions would be the only thing I can think of as an improvement to future clients.
