Ranch Day
If guests do not have enough time to spend the night at the estancia, this program is perfect to experience the Patagonian rural life and complements the tour to the glaciers. It can be visited either in the morning or the afternoon and participate in different activities according to the time of each one. Among the activities, visitors can attend tests for horse reins and sheep shearing demonstration, hikes and horseback riding of 1 or 3 hours. The trip ends with an exquisite lamb grilled on a traditional Patagonian cross stake. In the case of special groups, some specific gaucho skills demonstrations can be added.
Horseback Riding to the Hidden Glaciers
A blend of horseback riding, trekking and rural life. Each ride starts from the corrals to the most remote corners of the ranch, from outpost to outpost. The riders become part of the landscape, crossing through rivers, "abras" (spaces without forest between mountains), grassland, border landmark and views of the hidden glaciers, the southernmost of the National Park: Gorra, Frias, Dickson. A unique experience that invites you to enjoy the life of a Patagonia ranch.
Horseback riding to the Hidden Glaciers: Fixed departures 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month. Includes one night at the main house and three at the outposts (from December till March). Reduced program during November: 4 days 3 nights. Private departures are subject to confirmation.
Horseback riding to outpost: Private program, two days of horseback riding and one night at the Laguna de Tres de Abril outpost.
Sailing to the Glaciers
Two navigations allow you to unveil different glaciers within the National Park and departing from Nibepo Aike.
South Glacier Adventure: In the morning, navigate by the South Arm until its southern end to start trekking within the Los Glaciares National Park. After a slight hike into the forest, you will reach a natural viewpoint of Frías Lake, named after the glacier that used to cover this whole area. Descend to the shore to board a zodiac boat to navigate the lake and reach the opposite shore where the walk starts for about 7 km until you reach the glaciers Grande, Cubo and Dickson or Frías. These glaciers birthed a lagoon, a unique, spacious and exclusive landscape. Now it is time to have lunch facing this amphitheater of glaciers. In the afternoon the path retraces, but the views are different. Walk 6 h / 14 km, very little unevenness.
South Pioneers Glacier: Navigation after lunch by the South and Rich Arm of Lake Argentino to the beach of the Coins, which can only be reached by boat. Walkthrough the woods, a pristine area. The trail goes into the lenga forest until the first view of the Perito Moreno Glacier surprises you. We navigate through the front of the Glacier, opportunity to observe landslides and appreciate how its front approaches and is sometimes mounted on the Magallanes Peninsula generating a natural dam. Disembark in Bajo de las Sombras port, from where you can reach the 6 km long footbridges by vehicle. Time to cross them to have different angles of the wall of the Perito Moreno Glacier before undertaking the return to Calafate by vehicle or boat to the estancia.
