Involves minimal physical effort and is typically associated with leisurely activities. Activities are low-intensity or last less than a few hours each day.
With its black volcano almost 2,000 meters (6,561 foot) high and endless white beaches along the coastline, the island of Gran Canaria displays a huge variety of landscapes. A "continent in miniature" with rugged rock formations, dense pine forests, dry valleys and reservoirs in the interior, lush vegetation in the north, shimmering dune landscapes in the south and weirdly shaped cliffs in the west. Almost half the island has been registered by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve. The capital, Las Palmas, is no less colorful, with its port and history stretching back 500 years. The showpiece of this historic old town is the magnificent Santa Ana Cathedral.
Even from afar you can see the impressive panorama with Tenerife's landmark, Mount Teide. Its peak is the highest in Spain at 3,718 metres (12,200 foot) and is often covered in snow. The Las Cañadas National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a high volcanic plateau at the foot of Teide, surrounded by a circle of rock that rises up steeply. Volcanic activity has created strange-looking rock formations here which are adorned with a huge range of colors and seem like a unique synthesis of nature's art. In contrast to this are the fertile valleys of the north, a barren, almost desert-like south and the island's vibrant capital city, Santa Cruz.
Day 3: Puerto de la Estaca, El Hierro, Canary Islands
Volcanic activity has created a wildly romantic and varied natural landscape. A black lava desert and strange rock formations with oddly shaped, wind-defying juniper trees in the south, orchards, vineyards, fig and almond groves in the north, lush green meadows and pastures in the high plateaus, and perhaps the most beautiful pine forests in the archipelago. El Hierro, the smallest and newest of the Canary Islands, is almost completely edged with steeply sloping, rugged cliffs and the spray from the surging ocean. UNESCO has designated it a Biosphere Reserve.
The second largest island of Cape Verde enchants with its spectacular natural diversity. While the volcanic craters in the barren south are reminiscent of moonscapes, rocky mountainous landscapes alternate with green and fertile valleys in the north. Besides pineapples, mango trees and coconut palms, sugar cane is also grown here – and distilled into the national schnaps Grogue.
Violin sounds mingle with African drums, Fado meets Polka and creates musical styles like Morna, Batuque and Funaná: The Cape Verde Islands are a melting pot of world music. Cesária Évora from lively Mindelo was the isles’ most famous singer. Barefoot and with a sweet melancholy, she sang of love, hurt and hope and is still revered today as the “Queen of Morna”.
Sal Rei is a city located on the northwest coast of the island of Boa Vista in eastern Cape Verde. The Boa Vista Municipality is located in Sal Rei, the island's largest city. In 2010, there were 5,778 residents. The town's name translates to "Salt King" in Portuguese. This moniker dates back to a time when salt production was the island's primary business.
Sal Rei has a port on the bay with ferry routes to the islands of Santiago (Praia), Sal (Santa Maria) and Maio (Cidade do Maio). West of the port is the little islet of Ilhéu de Sal Rei, which has a new quay that was constructed in 2015. Praia de Cabral is the primary tourist destination in the region
The port for the Cape Verdean island of Fogo is called Vale de Caveiros. Three kilometers to the north of So Filipe is where it is located. The national port authority is in charge of running the port.

Beyond expectations! Then again we weren't sure what to expect. Lovely stay at the lodge, met other like-minded travelers (many had their trips planned by Adventure Life) and the owner was a gracious hostess. It felt like you were one happy family, visiting with a favorite aunt.
Everything is streamlined so far. It seems that tour is property planned and there would be no surprises.
