Day 1: Bridgetown, Barbados | Embark

Bridgetown, the vibrant capital of Barbados, blends colonial history, local traditions, and picture-perfect Caribbean beaches. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the city is known for its well-preserved colonial buildings and rich cultural past. Along the Constitution River at The Careenage, pastel-colored buildings overlook the water, where boats float peacefully and a boardwalk invites a scenic stroll. A nearby memorial marks the city’s role in the Transatlantic Slave Trade when Bridgetown was a major British port.

Just a short walk away is Carlisle Bay, with its clear turquoise water and soft white sand. The shallow bay is home to shipwrecks now teeming with turtles and colorful tropical fish, making it a favorite for snorkelers and divers. In the backstreets, street vendors serve local favorites like spicy chicken soup, barbecued pigtails, and fresh coconut water.

On Broad Street, shops and duty-free malls offer plenty of souvenirs, while nearby Roebuck Street celebrates the island’s rum-making heritage—rum was first distilled here from sugarcane by-products, and today you can sample many varieties in the local bars. For a deeper dive into history, visit the Nidhe Israel Synagogue, built in 1654. One of the oldest synagogues in the Americas, it also houses a museum sharing the story of Barbados’ Jewish community and its impact on the island’s development.

Day 2: Castries (St. Lucia), Saint Lucia

Discover the vibrant beauty of St. Lucia, an island shaped by nature and full of color—from its calm turquoise waters to the lush green peaks of the famous Pitons, dramatic volcanic spires that rise sharply from the sea. The island’s jungle interior hides waterfalls and hiking trails, perfect for exploring if you can tear yourself away from the pristine beaches and vibrant coral reefs teeming with tropical fish.

St. Lucia offers the kind of tropical escape you dream about. Marigot Bay, once the setting for the 1967 film Doctor Dolittle, is just one example of the island’s cinematic charm. Wildlife is easy to spot here—colorful parrots dart through palm trees and dolphins play in the waves offshore. Relax on Vigie Beach, where the sea shows every shade of blue, or snap a photo with the iconic Pitons towering in the background.

The capital, Castries, is home to the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. Modest from the outside, the church glows inside with colorful frescoes, sunlight, and flickering candles. For a more local experience, head to the Castries Market. Here, stalls overflow with spices like nutmeg and cinnamon, and friendly vendors sell everything from green bananas to ripe mangoes, inviting you to join in the lively tradition of bargaining.

Day 3: Fort-de-France, Martinique

The largest of the Windward Islands, Martinique is 4,261 miles from Paris, but its spirit and language are decidedly French, with more than a soupçon of West Indian spice. Tangible, edible evidence of this fact is the island's cuisine, a superb blend of French and Creole. Martinique is lushly landscaped with tropical flowers. Trees bend under the weight of fruits such as mangoes, papayas, lemons, limes, and bright-red West Indian cherries. Acres of banana plantations, pineapple fields, and waving sugarcane stretch to the horizon. The towering mountains and verdant rainforest in the north lure hikers, while underwater sights and sunken treasures attract snorkelers and scuba divers. Martinique is also wonderful if your idea of exercise is turning over every 10 minutes to get an even tan and your taste in adventure runs to duty-free shopping. A popular cruise-ship excursion goes to St-Pierre, which was buried by ash when Mont Pelée erupted in 1902.

Day 4: Gustavia, St. Barthelemy, Saint Barthelemy

Cherry red roofs, yacht-sprinkled bays, and a sophisticated French flavor all add to the gorgeous Caribbean allure of Gustavia. The island's capital rolls around a horseshoe-shaped harbor, where gleaming yachts hover and fancy shops, bars, and restaurants buzz with life and clinking cutlery. Head up to red and white Gustavia Lighthouse to look down over the revered waters, which attract many a celebrity guest and diving enthusiast to these shores. Christopher Columbus was the first European to discover this volcanic island in 1493, giving it the name St. Barthelemy in honor of his younger brother. The island has a unique history as a Swedish colony, following a deal with the French King Louis XVI to exchange the island with Sweden for better trading rights. It was returned to French control in 1878 and is now a French Overseas Collectivity. Learn more about the Swedish legacy at Fort Karl - which sits on a 29-meter-high hill above Shell Beach. The fort now lies in ruins, but you'll meet wandering iguanas, and the sweeping sea views and emerald coastline are some of the island's finest. Down below, a delightful spread of tiny pebbles and shell fragments scatter like confetti and is lapped by crystal-clear water. A little exploration uncovers countless other glorious beaches and natural wonders. Colombier Beach is a little out of the way but cradles silky-smooth sands and typically turquoise waters. If you have the chance, find somewhere to settle and sip fruity rum cocktails as the sunset flares across the waves.

Raise a glass to the immaculate surroundings of Roseau, where beautiful beaches - alive with fine bubbles fizzing upwards from the geothermal activity below - wait for you. Dive into extraordinary snorkeling and diving experiences, amongst thriving marine life, active corals, and live volcanoes concealed below the waves. With attractive volcanic sands to relax on, and glorious, jungled mountains to explore, Roseau is an intoxicating welcome to Dominica's Caribbean island appeal. Nestled on the west coast, Roseau is the island's capital and a city surrounded by sprawling banana plantations, and cocoa fields. First taken by the French, then the British, a strong colonial imprint mingles with the local flare. Nowadays Old Market Square is crammed with locals trading huge vegetables, colorful fruits, and handmade jewelry - but the square has a darker past, and was the center of the island's slave trade. Head up to the former British fort, which offers a panoramic, postcard-perfect view from the top, of Roseau and the lush green mountains behind. The large botanical gardens offer more magnificent views, and you can walk amongst thriving tropical plant life, as parrots flutter, and add splashes of color to the greenery. The rainforest around the city conceals rich wildlife and waterfalls spilling into splash pools, while plantations give a taste of the island's heritage. You can also discover the second-largest hot spring in the world - Boiling Lake - which brews with angry volcanic activity in the steamy Morne Trois Pitons National Park. Day 7: Bequia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

An almost mythical utopia of virgin beaches, rustic rum shacks, and bays so scenic you feel like you're intruding - Bequia Island is an island mirage of Caribbean perfection. This is the real, unspoiled experience - and with just 6,000 locals living here, you quickly start to recognize the same smiling faces, welcoming you with outstretched arms. Offering glorious, often deserted, beaches of pure golden sand, and hillside sweeps of forest and almond trees, Bequia Island is an extraordinary feast for the senses. Unlike some of the flashier Caribbean islands, Bequia - a part of the Grenadines - is a rustic, unassuming, and off-the-beaten-path choice. The staggeringly picturesque natural harbor, Admiralty Bay, greets you on arrival and is peppered with day-tripping yachts bobbing on the gentle waves. The island's tiny capital, Port Elizabeth, sits behind, with a bustling fruit and vegetable market, turtle sanctuary, and stalls selling hand-crafted model ships. This tiny, pretty island is ridged along the center, and you can earn your beachside bliss with a gentle hike to the top of Mount Peggy, looking out over views of Grenada and St. Vincent. At just seven miles long, you can discover the whole island in a few hours - but that would be to miss the point somewhat. Bequia Island coaxes you in to slow the pace and soothe your soul on blissful beaches, where you can revel in the uncomplicated joys of sitting, reading, and swimming in heavenly shallow waters. The royally approved Princess Margaret Beach is one of the finest - an arching band of soft sand and cobalt-blue waters. As evening sets in, you may find you're beckoned to share communal barbecues of the day's fresh catch with the locals or indulge in rum-heavy cocktails at beachside bars, lashed together from sea-blanched wooden limbs.

Kate was great to work with in the planning stage. She was prompt, helpful, and efficient. Our tour guide, Edwin, was knowledgeable and passionate. We were very happy to have traveled with Adventure Life, it made the trip easy and a true pleasure. We could concentrate on enjoying the experience rather than the details of travel.
