Chilean Patagonia: A Journey to the Edge of the World
Pia Glacier
From the granite spires of Torres del Paine to the glacier-carved fjords of Tierra del Fuego, Chilean Patagonia is where raw beauty takes center stage. Over the course of 10 unforgettable days, I explored windswept trails, sailed through remote channels aboard Australis, and witnessed nature at its wildest and most pristine.
My journey began in Santiago, Chile’s bustling capital. The morning started with a guided city tour—an ideal introduction to the city’s vibrant energy and layered history.
My guide met me in the hotel lobby, and we began by driving through Bellavista, a colorful bohemian neighborhood known for its artistic vibe, lively nightlife, and eclectic dining scene. We continued on foot through La Vega Central and Mercado Central, two of Santiago’s most iconic markets. From there, we wandered through the historic Plaza de Armas, the cultural heart of the city, and stopped at La Moneda Palace, the seat of the Chilean government. The tour concluded with sweeping panoramic views from Cerro Santa Lucia, with the mighty Andes mountains as a stunning backdrop.

After a morning filled with color, culture, and city views, it was time to slow down the pace and indulge in another side of Chilean life—its world-class wine.
In the afternoon, I traded the urban buzz for the tranquility of Chilean wine country with a visit to Concha y Toro, one of the region’s most renowned vineyards. Just a short drive from the city, the estate is as beautiful as it is storied. We sampled three premium wines during the tour and received a complimentary glass to take home. We also explored the legendary Casillero del Diablo cellar, steeped in history and folklore, before enjoying an exclusive tasting of four wines from their Marques de Casa Concha line. More wine? Yes, please! Needless to say, I didn’t mind the encore. Each glass was perfectly paired with fine cheeses, and the experience was made even more memorable by the serene setting of lush vineyards and distant mountain peaks.

It was the perfect start to the journey—blending city culture, history, and a taste of Chile’s rich winemaking tradition all in one day.

We have been using Adventure Life for over 20 years. I guess that about says it all. This most recent trip to central and southern patagonia was spectacular. What beautiful, vast, varied landscape. We saw it from kayaks, white water rafting, boats, hiking trails and on horseback.
Lodges and guides were top notch.
