Tour Yaxha, the ceremonial center for pre-Colombian Maya
Involves minimal physical effort and is typically associated with leisurely activities. Activities are low-intensity or last less than a few hours each day.
Arrive at Guatemala City Airport and hop onto a domestic flight to Flores. Upon arrival in Flores, meet with your guide for a quick lunch stop and a sunset tour of Yaxha, a Mesoamerican archaeological site in the northeastern Petén Basin. Once a ceremonial center of the pre-Columbian Maya, Yaxha, meaning "blue-green water," was first documented in 1904. Explore the ruins, home to over 500 ancient structures, and take in the breathtaking sunset from the top of the "Temple of the Red Hands" and the surrounding jungle. Afterward, head to your hotel for a well-deserved rest.
Meet your guide in the morning at your hotel and transfer to Tikal, one of the most significant Maya sites. Explore the ancient city, where towering pyramids rise above the dense jungle canopy, and learn how it thrived as a religious, scientific, and political center for 1,500 years. The surrounding jungle is home to diverse wildlife, including howler and spider monkeys, white-lipped peccaries, deer, coatimundis, toucans, scarlet macaws, parrots, ocelots, and the elusive jaguar.
After lunch, return to Flores for an evening at leisure.
