The history aficionado will appreciate a stay at Cara Lodge, Guyana. It is one of the oldest and grandest structures in Georgetown, and is the best known and most popular hotel in Guyana.

Cara Lodge was built in the 1840s and originally consisted of two houses. It has a long and romantic history and was the home of the first Lord Mayor of Georgetown. Over the years, the property has been visited by many dignitaries including King Edward VII who stayed at the house in 1923. He was later to abdicate and marry the American Wallis Simpson. Other dignitaries have included President Jimmy Carter in 1996, HRH Prince Charles in April 2000, HRH Prince Andrew in 2004 and Mick Jagger in 2005.

This magnificent home turned hotel offers the tradition and nostalgia of a bygone era, complete with service and comfort of the most luxurious of hotels, all in a most congenial family atmosphere.

Our signature dining establishment, the Bottle Restaurant, has been hailed as the best restaurant in the capital. It is open for lunch and dinner everyday, except Sundays.

At Cara Lodge, you will experience a setting that is the perfect marriage of old world charm and contemporary comfort – ideal for the traveler wishing to experience a taste of Guyana's past, and the business person wishing modern-day amenities.

Our Business Centre allows guests complimentary use of the computers, printers and the Internet.

Dining Options

THE BOTTLE RESTAURANT
A scintillating combination of aromas, from fresh Caribbean spices to grilled snapper and baked lamb will awaken your taste buds as you enter the Bottle Restaurant. Courteous staff is ready to serve you as you enjoy these culinary delights.

With columns of English ballast bricks, hundreds of Dutch Bottles and Portuguese ceramic floor tile, the Bottle Bar & Restaurant encapsulates Guyana's rich colonial history and culture.

The inviting family atmosphere is the perfect setting for enjoying a breakfast, lunch or dinner consisting of the freshest seasonal produce incorporated into many of the traditional dishes of Guyana. You can also experience the best international cuisine infused with a distinct local flavor. The small but interesting menu changes frequently, ensuring that there is always something new for guests to enjoy.

The Bottle Restaurant has earned the distinction of being one of the best, if not the best restaurant, in Georgetown. Advance reservations are required for lunch and dinner.

HOUSE SPECIALS
Some of the house specials are dishes that have survived many menu changes over the years, at the request of customers. The others are new items which will become every bit as popular.

THE MANGO TREE PATIO
The appeal of the Mango Tree Patio is evident with its open air to the Georgetown sky and hardwood furniture set among lush foliage.

The Patio imparts Guyanese living at its best. At the center stands a giant Mango Tree, estimated to be in excess of 80 years old. It serves as a gentle background to the sounds of laughter and chatter of customers, while attentive staff caters to your every need. The bar offers a full range of local and international beverages as well as some very special Cara cocktails to help you unwind or celebrate your adventures.

The Mango Tree is the perfect place for an aperitif before dinner in the Bottle Restaurant, but it also offers an extensive bar food menu for those that prefer a more casual approach to dining.

This was our first trip to South America and we were a little nervous. But Adventure Life made things so easy! All our questions were answered before we left, and our guide, Vidal, was amazing! He gave us enough space to explore without rushing us along. He also knew where the best picture taking opportunities were, which was great.
