Castro, Chiloe

Today was our first land excursion. After two days at sea, we were able to disembark in the city of Castro nestled in the hills of the Chiloe coast. To get to land we took a small shuttle boat once our departure group was called mid-morning. We signed up for a walking tour, the included excursion for this destination. Our guide Javier, guided us around town giving us some information on its history. I discovered later that he is also a fellow programmer and was filling in for his friend, which was a surprise because he was one of the most knowledgable guides we had during the trip.

The main point of interest on this walking tour was the Church of San Francisco, which was founded in the 16th century, very yellow, and made completely of wood. There were many religious statues/sculptures in the church. The church is near the town's main square, which features a nice park we were able to check out. After checking out the church we were guided to several scenic overlooks to take pictures and get more information about the area. The tour ended at a local market, where you are able to buy handmade goods and try the local cuisine. We had a few hours left before we had to be back on the ship, so we grabbed some coffee and walked a few miles along the coast, checking out the local architecture and views as we went along.

Once back on board we grabbed a late lunch and spent some time in the jacuzzi in the rain before dinner. Once we retired to our room we watched Uncharted, which was not great, but entertaining enough.
