The landscape of Bolivia (Laura Chadwick)We arrived in La Paz early in the morning, which gave us a beautiful sunrise view of the city as we were driven down from the airport. Our wonderful guide Grace met us at the airport, and showed us to the Hotel Rey Palace. After resting up and acclimatizing for a couple of hours, it was time to see a little of the city. We sampled El Ceibo chocolate (actually, got addicted to it) made in La Paz. After a brief tour and some shopping at the witches market, we drove to Moon Valley for a hike. The landscape there was truly amazing- it actually did look like something on the moon! We also spotted a viscacha, a reclusive animal that looks like something between a kangaroo and a squirrel. Sadly, did not manage to get a picture of that guy!

What a gift to experience Bolivia's Cordillera Real in such a guided and supported way. From the buzz of La Paz to the staggering heights of Huayna Potosi, we were well taken care of. With our guide, we had access to remote and untouristed trails, and for most of the trek, it felt like we had the world to ourselves. Would definitely recommend this to big mountain lovers who are prepared for some serious altitude and startling beauty.
