Instead of extinction, under the Giant Clam Restocking Programme, these endangered shell creatures are well on their way to further reproduction. If luck permits, watch them spawn a great multitude. Excite your day with a visit to the maternity tank where pregnant seahorses rest beside mothering bamboo sharks. And if a feast for the eyes ignites you further, take a reach into the "touch" tank where starfish amid other sea creatures await your caresses. For the true marine lover, you are welcomed to the Reef Regeneration Programme. In this nautical highlight, chanced guests are given the honor of replanting replenished corals back into the reef.
Gayana looks forward to presenting you with its authentic simulated habitats of eccentric fish species, its very own laboratory, coral and clam holding tanks, and an edifying auditorium. Gayana hopes to give back to society as the center invites scholars of all calibers to partake in the Marine Environment Education Programme, aiming to create a reflective consciousness towards our marine environment.
Research Center
The nerve centre of environmental preservation projects and activities at Gayana is our onsite Marine Ecology Research Centre, or MERC. A programme that is focussed on the rehabilitation and restoration of different forms of marine life, MERC is a fully-functional research centre that is run by a team of dedicated marine biologists and professionals. While Gayana is deeply devoted to providing ideal island experiences to our guests, we are also highly invested in preserving nature's underwater treasures and ensuring that their beauty and uniqueness may be enjoyed by generations to come.
The crystalline waters of Borneo conceal magnificent coral reefs, homes of an incredible variety of colorful aquatic plants and animals that have made it one of the most unique dive meccas in the world. Gayana's PADI Certified Dive Centre allows divers of all skill levels to experience these underwater marvels, such as sea turtles, clownfish, coral fish, whale sharks, and many more vibrant species of marine life. A license is not required to dive at Gayana as specially-trained PADI certified instructors make sure to lead you by the hand. Novice divers are first taken for a briefing and training session at the resort's divng pool before they explore the underwater realm of the big blue sea. The island's privacy also guarantees that guests have an exclusive and uncluttered diving experience, as most of the area is closed to the general public.
Have a fun yet tranquil day at Gayana. Kayak through emerald waters. Explore awe-inspiring mangroves. Catch a sight of Hornbills perched on century-old trees. Trek through thick jungles bursting with butterflies, birds, cicadas, and endless flora. Dive into ocean treasures or sunbathe afloat its waters as you smile at seahorses and gigantic clams. Whatever you choose, allow Gayana to keep you entertained.
