A day trip in Alajuela

My Journey to explore the wonders of Costa Rica starts here. Early in the morning, I was picked up from my hotel for a journey to the Doka Estate, where a captivating coffee tour awaited us. Of course, what's a better way to start the day than with coffee? Our knowledgeable guide, Omar led us through the Doka Estate, unveiling the intricate process of coffee production, from selecting the seedlings to cultivating them into the rich ground coffee they both serve and export. Even as someone who doesn't typically indulge in coffee, I couldn't help but fall in love with the coffee they offered.

Following our coffee adventure, the next item on our itinerary was a visit to the awe-inspiring Poas Volcano. Poás Volcano National Park is located in the Central Valley. Poás is one of the most accessible active volcanoes in the world, offering visitors the chance to peer into its steaming crater. The surrounding cloud forests are home to unique flora and fauna, making it a must-visit for nature lovers and geology enthusiasts alike. From the parking area, we had to do a 20-minute walk to reach the viewing platform, which offered a splendid view of the volcano's crater. Upon our arrival, the crater was shrouded in fog, but then, as if by magic, the sun broke through, revealing the stunning Poas Crater in all its glory. Visitors are limited to spending just 20 minutes at this vantage point, but witnessing the crater's beauty is so gratifying that you'll leave feeling thoroughly content.

From the Volcano's crater, our last stop for the day is the La Paz Waterfalls. It is situated in the heart of the rainforest, this series of waterfalls cascades through lush greenery and offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The adjacent wildlife sanctuary allows you to get up close and personal with Costa Rica's native animals ranging from sloths and birds to butterflies.

My day ended around 7 PM when I was transported back to my hotel for the night in San Jose.
