The Galapagos Islands weather by month is surprisingly mild, making this destination a great place to visit year-round. While there are two main seasons, the islands never experience extreme temperatures, so you can plan a trip any time of year depending on your preferences.

From December through May, the islands are warmer and slightly rainier. Although short showers lasting an hour or two are common, this is also the sunniest time of year in the Galapagos. Many travelers enjoy these months for clear skies, calmer seas, and vibrant wildlife activity.

Between June and November, the air and Galapagos water temperature cool slightly during what’s known as the garúa season. You’ll often notice fine mist in the mornings, and while the days are still comfortable, you may want to pack a wetsuit if you plan to snorkel, since the Galapagos water temperature by month can be noticeably cooler.
It’s important to note that these are averages. Conditions vary depending on the site: shallow, sunny beaches often feel warm and inviting, while areas exposed to the Humboldt Current can be quite brisk. Air temperatures also fluctuate—standing on black lava islands can feel close to 100°F, but evenings usually cool off pleasantly with ocean breezes.
