The next day is another adventure. We took a two-hour ride from Cusco to the Andes Mountain range, home of Vinicunca Mountain, also known as Rainbow Mountain! The trek can be challenging due to the high altitude and steep inclines. I advise you to take it slowly and acclimatize to the altitude beforehand. It's also essential to bring appropriate clothing and gear for the trek, including warm clothing and sturdy hiking boots. The view during the trek up to the top is simply breath-taking. The mountain is famous for its vibrant colors, which are the result of mineral deposits in the soil. The colors range from reds, oranges, yellows, greens, blues, purples, and pinks. It looks like a canvas painted straight out of paradise itself.
We spent our final day at San Pedro Market back in downtown Cusco - doing some souvenir shopping amidst vibrant traditional market life. The stores are brimming with color and banter between locals selling their local goods. The colorful stalls all around us made sure that we ended our adventure on an even more memorable note than when it started.
Overall my experience in Peru was simply unforgettable – one filled with lots of memories relating both new experiences exploring ancient ruins as well as embracing local cultures far away from home!
We have used AL for decades now to plan trips. Kassandra has been with us from the start and has never disappointed. She knows our family and our quirks and is always willing to fit the trip to us. This time we made her work for the booking because of family member schedules. It has all come together for a great Christmas gift for many families.
