Day 1: Arrive Quito

Day 2: Antisana and Cotopaxi

This morning you rise to get fitted for your bike. Mount up and ride south along the Avenue of Volcanoes. The Antisana Reserve is located on the foothills of the Volcano Antisana, Ecuador's fourth highest peak in the Andes range. Explore this area and take in the breathtaking views of Antisana. Next see Cotopaxi Volcano, the highest active volcano in the world at 19,347 ft. This area provides excellent opportunities to spot the Andean Condor. Tonight you'll ride on and overnight in one of Ecuador's most famous haciendas, the 400 year old Hacienda La Cienega. This enchanting hacienda on the slopes of Cotopaxi has hosted many of Ecuador's former presidents as well as the founder of modern geography, Alexander von Humboldt.

Day 3: Latacunga, Ambato, Riobamba and Baños

  • 1 Breakfast
Continue traveling to Latacunga today. A small town of indigenous people, Latacunga is most noted for its empanadas, plantains and tostados. This town lies close to Cotopaxi and has multiple times suffered damage by eruptions from the volcano and earthquakes. Next visit Ambato, the capital of this province. A much larger city, it is well developed and known for its fruit and flower production, tanneries, and textiles markets. Continue on to Riobamba, located in the Chambo River Valley of the Andes. This city is a main transportation center in the region. Last finish your journey today in Baños, one of the most charming towns of Ecuador. Considered the gateway to the Amazon river basin, Baños is a land of orchids and waterfalls at the base of the Tungurahua volcano, and its hot therapeutic springs are famous throughout the country. Overnight in Baños.

Day 4: Banos Free day

Enjoy a rest day today. You can enjoy the numerous options that Baños has to offer. Your guide is available to help you select optional activities that include white water rafting, bike riding, horseback riding, rock-climbing and more! You can also choose to simply relax in this charming Ecuadorian town and enjoy a slower paced day. Overnight in Baños.

Day 5: Puyo, Macas, Cuenca

  • 1 Breakfast
Ride again today further south towards Cuenca. Stop en route at Puyo, the commercial capital of the region and border town to the Amazon rainforest located along the Puyo Amazon River. Next continue on to the Macas, another main settlement along the Amazon rainforest boundary. This city has served as a main hub for contact with Amazon indigenous people, including providing the location for the main seats of local government. The city also offers a range of activities to tourists. Continue south to the colonial gem of Cuenca. Here red clay rooftops stretch throughout the city and baroque churches seem to stand on every corner. The rest of the day is free for you to wander and explore Cuenca.

Day 6: Cuenca City Tour, Azogues and Ingapirca

Spend the morning touring Cuenca, a UNESCO world heritage site. You might visit the city's markets and grand churches or head to the Tomebamba River and the old and new Cathedral in this lovely city. Next you continue on to Azogues, well known for its Ecuadorian hats! Next head north to the fortress of Ingapirca, a major pre-colonial Inca site that dates back to the 15th century, the first Inca City in Ecuador. Overnight.

Day 7: Ingapirca, Palmira, and Riobamba

Explore the ancient fortress more this morning before riding back north. Visit next the cold desert area of Palmira. Its small 10 hectares wide plot offers stark contrast with a pine tree forest and cactus planted in the sands. From here head north further to Riobamba where you overnight this evening.

Day 8: Riobamba and Return Quito

Ride back to Quito today where you return your bikes and enjoy your last evening exploring the main city. You can visit the view point at Guápulo from where you can admire its church and Quito's nearby valleys. Or see Quito's colonial center with many historical buildings; including churches, museums and monuments. Visit the monument at the Middle of the World to stand on both sides of the Equator, or you can opt to just relax and wander through the streets of the city this evening.

Beyond expectations! Then again we weren't sure what to expect. Lovely stay at the lodge, met other like-minded travelers (many had their trips planned by Adventure Life) and the owner was a gracious hostess. It felt like you were one happy family, visiting with a favorite aunt.
