Day 3: Cape Girardeau, MO

Cape Girardeau has shown hospitality to the likes of Mark Twain, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, and now greets our guests in the same vein. Peeking through the long-standing architecture and handsome panoramas are moments that will mature into golden memories. They say sometimes the little things make the biggest impact, and here, a million little things have built an empire. Take time to dance among the light of day or pedal along the sliver of bike lanes that strip along city streets. Embrace legends, discover a simpler time and relive the wonders of the past. Here, exploration of young America is at your fingertips.

Included Shore Excursions

Cape Girardeau Hop-On Hop-Off Tour
Nestled along the western banks of the mighty Mississippi River lays the city of Cape Girardeau, Missouri. It’s a community rich in history and heritage. For more than 250 years, people have been drawn to Cape Girardeau and the river on which it lies. Stroll along the riverfront to feel the passion that led Mark Twain to write so eloquently about Cape Girardeau in Life on the Mississippi , the inspiration that Gen. Ulysses S. Grant used to lead with firm conviction as he took command of the Union Army in the historic downtown and the warmth and hospitality that community founder Louis Lorimier extended to Lewis and Clark while on their journey to explore the Louisiana Purchase

Tracing the Trail of Tears

Embark on a journey through the past as we discover two of America’s most beautiful and historic sites. Retrace the route taken by displaced Native Americans at the Trail of Tears State Park. The park’s visitor center tells the tale of heartache that was dubbed the “Trail of Tears.” Then travel back to the simplicity of yesteryear at the Bollinger Mill Historic Site. Take in the beauty of the surrounding nature and see the massive four-story mill dating back to the Civil War era. Continue then to Jackson, Missouri, where we will enjoy a driving tour before time to explore the Jackson Heritage Museum or browse the downtown shops.

Day 4: Paducah, KY

In the hands of artists, modern Paducah was thrown into form. Fingertips muddied with passion and eased by the vision of river water glided along the surface to pull up the community and create the National Quilt Museum. Residents backstitch past into present, then bind appreciation for culture – ensuring that the seams of history will not soon come undone. The people of Paducah have taken great care to orchestrate every crevice of its community into a symphony of craft and color. Life is a work of art, and the town of Paducah certainly is alive and well. Feast in this foodies’ fantasy. Uncover mastership. Catch a glimpse of Paducah.

Included Shore Excursions

Paducah Hop-On Hop-Off Tour
Paducah embraces its harmonious history between the European settlers and the Chickasaw Indians native to the area. The city is located at the confluence of the Ohio and the Tennessee Rivers and because of this, it is often called the Four-Rivers Region due to the proximity of the Ohio, Cumberland, Tennessee, and Mississippi Rivers. This prime location has played a major role in Paducah's history, as transportation was easily accessible.

Check-In Along the Chitlin' Trail

With simple white lettering across the front porch reading “Hotel Metropolitan,” this rustic colonial structure became a safe haven for traveling African American musicians in the early 1900s. As we step off the River Coach and into the radiating heat of the Kentucky sun, we will meet Miss Maggie, a ball of southern energy and hospitality. As she personally welcomes us inside, time turns back a century. Follow Miss Maggie through the rooms as she shares the rich history that has been stowed in the hotel’s walls. Listen as she gossips about its past boarders, including B.B. King, Billie Holiday, and Ike and Tina Turner, just to name a few in the hotel’s famous guest book.

Day 5: Henderson, KY

Capture your inner artisan in the home of James Audubon and W.C Handy. Hospitality flows freely through a vibrant downtown that kisses the rolling river. Wide streets welcome guests and showcase historic preservation that awakens a classic ambiance in storefronts and homes. Discover nature fingerprinted with humanity in the many parks and trials that showcase artistry throughout the town. Greetings from Henderson – a walkable community wrapped in warmth.

Included Shore Excursions

Henderson Hop-On Hop-Off Tour
Since 1797, Henderson has provided commerce and inspired two renowned artists. Naturalist John James Audubon discovered his calling here, observing and painting many works for Birds of America, the most recognized natural history book in the world. Musician W.C. Handy also lived in Henderson, and for over 25 years the town has been celebrating the W.C. Handy Blues & Barbecue Festival, one of the largest free music festivals in the nation. As once one of the richest communities per capita in the country, Henderson gained much of its wealth during tobacco’s heyday. This led to the construction of many beautiful 19th century homes, many of which are still standing in the historic downtown.

Day 6: River Cruising

Watch small river towns and lush landscapes slowly become lost in the horizon as sunlight plays upon the deck. Take hold of a literary classic, curl up on a plush chair in a cozy corner and relish in the moment of tranquility. Experience the fulfillment that river cruising offers.

Day 7: Louisville, KY

This authentically quirky port is a muse to artisans of mixed mediums – from sidewalk chalk to street fare – and home to cultural diversity that quickly captivates the heart of its visitors. The local tradition that lives within images of Derby hats, Old-Fashioned cocktails and the 120-foot Louisville Slugger that towers over the friendly city is better lived than seen. Explore the red penguin-peppered Main Street. Embrace oddity. Experience Louisville.

Madison also served as a major transportation network for the Underground Railroad in the 1800s. Today, this quaint river town is sure to win the heart of guests. This was my first experience with Adventure Life - and I couldn't have been more pleased with the trip. The guides and local staff in both Buenos Aires and Uruguay were terrific - extremely helpful and accommodating. I really enjoyed meeting the friendly staff in Buenos Aires in person (I left my bags with them for the afternoon).
