Captivating Cusco

My recent trip to Peru was truly an experience of a lifetime. From the stunning beauty and rich culture of Cusco City, to the breathtaking landscape of Rainbow Mountain, and of course the iconic Machu Picchu, I felt like I had been transported to another world. I had the opportunity to explore and experience so much of the culture, beauty, and history that the city has to offer.

I started my journey with a city tour in Cusco, where I got to explore some of Peru's most impressive landmarks. First up on the list was Sacsayhuaman, an ancient Incan fortress built on a hill overlooking the city. Here, I got to appreciate its massive stone walls and terraces that seemed to be climbing towards the sky. Next up was Quenqo, a ceremonial center believed by some to have been used for animal sacrifices during festivals. This site left me in awe as it displayed ancient architecture with many rooms carved into rocks and pathways that led up to a mysterious temple at its peak.

The next stops on our tour were Puka Pukara and Korikancha – two Incan sites that showcased both their engineering prowess as well as mystical importance in Incan culture. Puka Pukara featured an intricately built complex of fortresses while Korikancha displayed its famous gold covered walls which gave it its name (Korikancha means “Golden Courtyard”). Last but not least we visited Basilica Catedral and Plaza de Armas – two locations filled with colonial history which were great spots for souvenir shopping.
