Syracuse is a city on the Ionian coast of Sicily that's known for its ancient ruins. It was once the largest city in the world, bigger than Athens and Corinth, and as you can imagine it's steeped in history. Visit Parco Archeologico della Neapolis, one of Sicily's greatest archaeological sites. Relax in one of its stylish little cafes that surround its beautiful baroque piazzas before wandering down its medieval lanes towards the sparkling blue sea.

Day 4: Pilos, Greece

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Homer's 'Wise King Nestor' was very wise indeed to build his magnificent palace near Pilos. The city's harbor of Navarino Bay and the land-locked lake that was the original harbor was a perfect refuge from storms - and invaders. And it was at this site on October 20, 1827, with the help of Britain, Russia, and France, that modern Greece attained independence, defeating the Turkish navy in the Battle of Navarino Bay.

Day 5: Monemvasia, Greece

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
From the shore, it's a big rock sticking out into the sea. Then you pass over the causeway, and through an iron fortress gate, and suddenly, the town of Monemvasia is before you, a perfectly preserved Byzantine fortified port, once 60,000 strong, now home to just a few hundred. You can readily see why the name Monemvasia means single entrance! In the rocky hills above, ancient Byzantine ruins loom over the town, while below a maze of red-tiled roofs and twisting alleys hide tavernas and cafes and the home of revered Greek poet Yannis Ritsos.

Day 6: Nafplio, Greece

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Nafplio is a seaport town in the Peloponnese that is one of Greece's prettiest and most romantic towns. Elegant Venetian houses, neoclassical mansions, and interesting museums nestle beneath the towering Palamidi fortress. There are also plenty of quayside cafes to relax in and some lovely boutiques to keep the keen shoppers occupied. The town is an ideal base from which to explore many nearby ancient sites. it is a popular destination for locals from Athens so it is busy in peak season.

Day 7: Piraeus (Port of Athens), Greece

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Walking in the shadow of the Acropolis in the Agora, you can almost hear the voices of Plato, Socrates, and Aristotle arguing about who was the greatest philosopher. Ancient Athens, the birthplace of democracy and epicenter of western civilization, is a city for all eternity.

Day 8: Mykonos, Greece

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
One of the most cosmopolitan of all the Greek Islands, Mykonos is a contrast of rocky hills and beautiful beaches. Hora, the capital, spreads around a colorful harbor, a popular meeting place, overlooked by a variety of tavernas, in which fishing boats nestle side by side with luxury yachts.

Day 9: Patmos, Greece

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner

Day 10: Chios, Greece

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
A mastic-scented island with fascinating history This natural product is cultivated entirely by hand and is used in medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, and cosmetics. At the central market of the town of Chios, you can buy mastic-based jams and sweets, brandies, and Ouzo! Chios is most likely the birthplace of Homer and also the ancient mathematicians Hippocrates and Enopides. A lot of Chiots work in the Merchant Navy and some of the most important Greek shipping companies have been founded by families that come from the island.

Day 11: Dikli, Turkey

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Dikkili is a sleepy little beach town, authentically Turkish. The harbor is lined with open-air restaurants and shops with local food specialties. Nearby, Bergama is worth a visit, especially for its two main monuments: the Acropolis perched at a height of 280 meters and the Asklepion.

Day 12: Bozcaada, Turkey

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Bozcaada has resisted the temptation to become overwhelmed with the usual tourist trappings. If you venture aware of its glorious uncrowded sandy beaches, you will find yourself wandering around its ancient cobbled streets, lined with quaint rustic homes adorned with gorgeous flora and fauna. Stop off for refreshments in one of its many traditional tavernas under the grapevines or visit one of the six wineries on the island. After the tour, you can shop next door and enjoy tasting wine samples.

This was our first trip to South America and we were a little nervous. But Adventure Life made things so easy! All our questions were answered before we left, and our guide, Vidal, was amazing! He gave us enough space to explore without rushing us along. He also knew where the best picture taking opportunities were, which was great.
