Day 1: Baltra | Embark | Las Bachas

Fly into Baltra and travel to the white coral Las Bachas beach in the north of Santa Cruz Island. Make a wet landing and walk along the beach. Find small brackish water lagoons behind the sand dune. You may even see flamingos and other coastal birds like black-necked stilts, whimbrels, and white-cheeked pintail ducks. After the walk you have the possibility to swim and snorkel from the beach.

Day 2: Mosquera | Cerro Dragon

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Travel to Mosquera and observe a large colony of sea lions. You can also see lava gulls, marine iguanas, Sally Lightfoot crabs, other coastal birds, and sometimes scorpions.

Later in the day go to Cerro Dragon. Hike past a flamingo lagoon to a prickly pear cactus forest. The trail leads to where land iguanas live and nest and you can see beautiful views of the surrounding landscape.

Day 3: Isabela | Fernandina

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Arrive on Isabela and explore Tagus Cove. This protected cove was a favorite resting site for early pirates and whalers. See some of their names painted in the high cliffs. Take a scenic hike that leads uphill to Darwin Lake. At the end of the hike you have wonderful views over the lava fields of Darwin Volcano. Take a dinghy ride along the cliffs to look for Galapagos penguins and flightless cormorants. If the water is clear you can snorkel among the marine invertebrates.

Travel to Fernandina Island and hike around to see huge marine iguanas. On the lava coast, you can see the nesting places for the flightless cormorant. Also see lava lizards, the Galapagos hawk, marine turtles, and Galapagos penguins.

Day 4: Isabela

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
In Urbina Bay see flightless cormorants and huge marine iguanas along the shore. A trail leads inland and there are many colorful land iguanas. You may also see the Galapagos tortoise. If the sea is quiet, enjoy some snorkeling.

Take a dinghy ride into a protected mangrove cove. In the far corners of the cove shut the motor off and quietly row through to observe the marine turtles. In Elizabeth Bay you can find the tallest red mangrove trees in the Galapagos.

Day 5: Isabela

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Early in the morning hike on the rough lava field of Punta Moreno. Here you may be able to see all three types of cactus: candelabra cactus, prickly pear cactus, and lava cactus. In the middle of the lava field find some brackish water pools with flamingos, common gallinules, white-cheeked pintail ducks and paint-billed crakes. Take a dinghy ride to see flightless cormorants, Galapagos penguins, and marine iguanas.

Begin a navigation around the shore line of Volcano Cerro Azul to Puerto Villamil. Look for dolphins and whales along the way and arrive just before dark at the small harbor of Puerto Villamil.

Day 6: Isabela | Disembark | Baltra

  • 1 Breakfast
Explore the lagoons of Villamil. Start at the Tortoise Breeding Center and see different subspecies of the Galapagos land tortoises. Take a walk back to town on a trail from the lagoon to lagoon and look for flamingos, common gallinules, white-cheeked pintail ducks and black-necked stilts.

Travel back to Baltra to start your journey home.

The trip was terrific with great planning on your part. Most of the adventures were not mainstream and somewhat off the beaten path which made it especially enjoyable!! We felt taken care of and you all were readily available to respond to questions and issues. I would highly recommend your company and friends have already expressed interest based on our pictures and excitement.
